Agri-Food Quality Network of the Euroregion Pyrenees-Mediterranean

Agri-Food Quality Network of the Euroregion Pyrenees-Mediterranean

Description

The Pyrenees-Mediterranean Euroregion is formed by the regions of the Balearic Islands, Catalonia and Occitania. A considerable part of this territory has an important tradition in the production of quality foods, with their own personalities such as oils, wines, sausages, cheeses, etc.. We understand by quality foods those that are distinguished by guaranteeing a differentiated quality either by a specific quality or characteristics linked to the particular geographical environment and for having passed the strict security and control mechanisms established by the EU to obtain the distinctive of DO or PGI.

This differentiated quality, at a time of crisis such as the current one in which production income has decreased, can give intrinsic value to agricultural production and help increase the capacity to maintain farms and guarantee self-sufficiency in the face of future crises. In addition, quality food promotes rural and sustainable development, circular economy, proximity sales of local producers and processors, all of which are necessary to ensure territorial balance since COVID-19.

The project “Quality Food Network of the Pyrenees-Mediterranean Euroregion” was born with the aim of creating an innovative ecosystem of the agri-food sector at Euroregional level that, firstly, facilitates the knowledge of the different actors that make it up and, secondly, promotes the transfer of knowledge and technology generating the emergence of new partnerships and innovative project ideas to respond to the challenges facing the sector.
